Engraving of a wooden lid

A lovely project was engraving a lid for a koi carp feeding box. We found a suitable design on Etsy, as requested by the customer, and engraved it onto the wooden lid.

Since the lid was already waxed, we had to adjust the laser engraving settings to minimize ash and burn marks on the wood around the engraving. Sanding and waxing afterward wasn't an option.

Notes:
Wood is always a surprise.

Light wood reacts faster and engraves deeper because it is softer.

Dark wood requires more energy. The more energy you apply, the slower you move the laser, or the higher the resolution, the more the surface will burn, resulting in unsightly dark burn marks at the edge of the engraving.

To correct this, the wood must be sanded after engraving, and the surface treated with wax, oil, or varnish.

To avoid this, you must carefully adjust the energy, speed, and density accordingly. We always perform an engraving test on the back of the material.

In this project, we only varied the engraving density by 600, 800, and 1000 DPI.

It's clearly visible that the higher the value, the darker the engraving became.
